Here’s the latest football gist…
Adrian is Liverpool’s ‘Rocky Balboa’ as they Win UEFA Super Cup
Adrian saved from Tammy Abraham as Liverpool beat Chelsea 5-4 on penalties to win the UEFA Super Cup following a 2-2 draw in Istanbul.
“What a story. Adrian! Like Rocky, after he lost against Apollo Creed,” Klopp told BT Sport post-match, comparing the Spaniard to the fictional boxing hero.
Oliver Giroud scored first for Chelsea before Sadio Mane put the Kops in front, scoring in the second half and the first half of extra time.
Jorginho restored parity from the spot after Adrian brought down Abraham, sending the first all-English Super Cup to penalties.
Lampard Proud of his Chelsea Team Despite Super Cup Loss
Lampard is holding his head high despite a UEFA Super Cup loss to Liverpool on penalties.
“My overall feeling is one of pride. I’m a terrible loser, one of the worst in the world, but I’m happy with the team performance because we were very unfortunate,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“After Sunday, tonight was another level, and we were unlucky not to win. We’ve got three games now till the international break and we’ll try to win them all.”
PSG Say No to Bids from Barca, Real Madrid for Neymar
It takes a bit of a bargain to sell an expensive product, and Barcelona and Real Madrid are finding that out pretty well following unsuccessful offers for Paris St-Germain forward Neymar.
Barcelona reportedly offered 100m euros (£92.4m) plus Philippe Coutinho; there is also talk of Ivan Rakitic to be included in the deal.
Real Madrid’s offer includes money as well as Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, but PSG want Vinicius Junior.
We are here to see which of the Spanish giants gets the signature of the world’s most expensive player.
Coutinho’s Agent Arrives in Barca
Meanwhile, Coutinho’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, landed in Barcelona on Wednesday morning to discuss the midfielder’s potential exit.
His trip to the Spanish city comes after meeting with representatives of Paris Saint-Germain in France as Coutinho’s future stays top of his biggest concerns at the moment.
There are rumours somewhere about interest from Bayern Munich despite serious gossips about a move to France.
Man Utd Will Win PL Before Liverpool – Prophet Neville
From football punditry to soothsayer, Gary Neville is a proof you can be anything. The ex-man Utd right-back has tipped his former side to lift the Premier League title again before rivals Liverpool do.
United finished 6th last season, and are nowhere near the firing power of Liverpool despite a great start to life this season beating Chelsea 4-0.
Neville knows this though, but still believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could beat Liverpool to silverware this season or next or next….we’ll just watch and see.
“I don’t sit here every day as a United fan and think my world’s ending. I just see it as a cycle,” Neville said on Sky Bet’s The Big Debate.
“What I’m saying is, Liverpool, City, Tottenham, all these clubs have had poor recruitment policies over the last 25 or 30 years at times. So United are going through one at the moment.
“Eventually they will stumble upon the right recruitment system, the right recruitment people, they’ll get a great manager – hopefully, that’s Ole – and they’ll start to win again. That’s going to happen.
“I can guarantee you as clear as day, Manchester United will win again. They’ll probably win the league before Liverpool, in my opinion. And that’s not being disrespectful, they’ll probably win the league before Liverpool.”
Lindelof in Talks to Sign New Man Utd Deal
And as Neville wishes his prediction into reality, the United board are making moves to see it come to pass.
United are reportedly preparing to offer Victor Lindelof a new contract which will see the Sweden international double his £75,000 a week wages at Old Trafford.
As per The Mirror, the Old Trafford outfit are offering Lindelof a deal worth in the region of £150,000 a week until the summer of 2025.
United are ready to put trust in the defensive partnership of Lindelof and Maguire for the coming years.
Dybala No Closer to leaving – Juve Sporting Director
We have heard of links to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Inter Milan, but Juve chief football officer, Fabio Paratici has confirmed that Dybala is no closer to leaving Turin.
“The market is open and there is interest, but there are no names closer to a sale,” he said.
“[Dybala] is a Juve player – indeed, he is a great Juve player. As I said, during the transfer market, there are discussions and negotiations.”
