Brahim Diaz’ Transfer Release Clause Is Higher Than Lionel Messi’s
Brahim Diaz might only be 19 and played just 15 senior games in his career but the new Real Madrid signing has a transfer release clause higher than teammates Isco and Marco Asensio and even Lionel Messi.
There are moments that you can point at and say that changed history, and occasionally that won’t be overstating it, when it comes to transfers that’s definitely Neymar’s move to PSG.
Sure I’ve banged on about that so much ever since it happened but the fact that PSG were so easily able to sign the Brazilian came from Spain’s rule that players have to have a transfer release clause in their contracts.
Neymar’s £198 million seemed a lot but at the same time not stupidly unimaginable, and so it proved. With that transfer fees soared and left us in the climate of Dominic Solanke costing £19 million.
The knock on effect also led to transfer release clauses going ever upwards with Isco and Marco Asensio, for example, being tied to €700 million clauses.
However the two Real Madrid players have now been eclipsed by their newest teammate. According to Spanish newspaper AS new Real signing Brahim Diaz has signed to a €750 million release clause. That news means that the teenager, who only made five league appearances for Manchester City before moving back to Spain, also has a higher release clause than Lionel Messi.
Barcelona’s highest ever goal scorer, and the winner of five Ballon d’Ors, could be bought by any club for ‘just’ €700 million, if PSG can somehow find a way round PSG’s FFP rules you wouldn’t rule it out.
